Black Friday Nutrition Choices

This year I took a new approach to Thanksgiving after seeing a post from my friend:

Reading this made me realize my mindset going into this family holiday. There were no plans of enjoying the food that my family had been cooking all morning. After reading this, the game was on!

I enjoyed every bite yesterday and it was lovely!

Today will be different. As much as I would love a stack of flap jacks drizzled in syrup and butter with a side of maple bacon….. oooooooo yum – Instead, healthier choices will be made today. Womp womp. Right now I’m sitting outside enjoying the Palm Springs weather while sipping on a hot cup of coffee and eating some greek yogurt.

As soon as my boyfriend wakes up, we will go bike riding or take a trip to the batting cages at the baseball park.  What will you be doing today? Did you already do your shopping? It’s one of the first years that I’m not out shopping in the madness and I’m not too sad about it.

Hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving – now on to good eating choices until the next holiday!

Positive Polly

Today I woke up in the best mood.

Despite recovering from a nasty cold, I took a nice long bike ride around my neighborhood. I felt the cool fall air against my face. I enjoyed the sights and sounds of my neighborhood one more time before we make our move to North Hollywood nest Saturday.

I’ve lost my motivation to exercise recently. I know that it makes me feel amazing when I force myself to get to the gym and do it. It’s just the process of getting me to the gym tat I have been struggling with.
Today I went online to Zuzka’s site for the first time in forever and did one of her at home workouts.

When I lived in Anaheim I used to do these 5-6 days a week and I was in the best shape of my whole life. The workouts revolve around interval training with exercises that get your whole body worked out. They only take about 20-35 minutes a day. It sounds too good to be true but I swear that if you try it and stick to it for a month, you will know exactly what I mean.

I’ve been in a rut for a while. Spending time in the dark by myself and not wanting to find a way out. Today I think I saw the light and I’m going to take the first step to get myself out of this hole.

Enjoy the beautiful things around you. Love the people who love you. Be grateful for the smallest details of your life. It’s never quite as bad as it seems.

I’m over this pity party.

This is the pits.

I’ve been missing you so much lately. It reminds me of the pain from when you were first gone. I don’t know why it’s coming back and I don’t want to feel it. I’ve been pushing the feeling away and it keeps catching up with me. This December 22nd will be 6 years… it’s about the time that people expect you to forget and be fine. Your allotted grieving time is officially over. People are tired of hearing about it. It’s an awkward topic.

It hit me this year that I’m beginning to forget things about him. The sound of his voice, his hugs, the way that he smelled, just the way that he was in general. It hurts so bad because he seems more and more like a fictional character to me. He never existed. He’s just someone that I made up…

There are so many things that have happened in the last 6 years that I wish he could have been able to see.

And I would give anything in this world just to hear him say that he was proud of me.

For a while after he died, I could feel his presence around. I’ve felt it a few times since but it has been a long time. I know that I won’t feel it again. He is officially gone.

I can feel that emptiness again. It’s expanding inside of my lungs and I can’t breathe.

I wish I could tell you how much I miss you and how much I love you. I wish that I could hug you again.

I miss hanging out with you in the garage late at night while you worked on your Bronco.

I miss making top ramen with you.

I miss driving around town with no destination just to listen to talk radio.

I miss building things with you.

I miss watching ghost and UFO documentaries with you.

I wish that I had taken the time to appreciate those things when I had them.

I took you for granted and now I can never have those moments back.

This is the pits.

Kitchen Facelift

I love to cook.

I hate my kitchen.

Therefore, I do not cook in my kitchen.

My kitchen is modest in size. It’s so modest that there is no room for a refrigerator. Most of my cabinet drawers don’t open because they are sealed with paint from before we moved in. Things are starting to stack on top of one another and I am now ready for change.

Ikea is one of my favorite stores so I went to their website for inspiration. The answer to my dilemma, shelving. Here are some photos that I nabbed. I will be working on fixing it up this summer. Wooo!

Cinco De Mayo Tattoo

On Saturday we got a head start to our Cinco De Mayo Celebration. True Tattoo on Cahuenga and Selma was giving $20 tattoos. Will and I picked our favorites from the flash art and got some fun souvineers.

Successful night indeed!

Patio Makeover

Due to unforseen circumstances, we did not end up moving like we had hoped. I was disappointed and wanted nothing to do with our current apartment. I spent hours looking on padmapper and west side rentals for a new home. I had to face the harsh truth that we would have to spend an additional $400 a month on rent in order live in a descent space in a better neighborhood. My hopes and expectations were high.
This was the only thing on my mind for a few weeks. It stressed me out beyond belief. Then one morning I realized that we don’t have it that bad where we currently live. The biggest womp womp is that we don’t have parking spaces or laundry in our unit. However, we do pay about a grand a month for an 800+ sq ft pad. In addition, the apartment has a back door that leads out to a perimeter walkway around the whole apartment building. The wheels started turning and I began to see the potential that our home held. And so begins my quest to make our apartment amazing.

First order of business is to utilize the outdoor walkway space so that our dogs can have a patio to explore.

Our unit sits in the back corner of the apartment complex. The walkway space that we have access to is much larger than any of the other apartments. I built a fence to block off the section that hugs around our unit. MAXIMUM PRIVACY AT LAST! Now our three pups can go outside and explore to their hearts’ content.

Great, so we have some open space. The next step is creating an outdoor space that we can enjoy as much as our furry friends. I had some old furniture that didn’t go well together. Today I bought some fun, bright, spring colored spray paint and went to town. It now looks brand new! I also began hanging string lights, put up some bamboo screen to block the ugly chain link fence, and bought a portable hot red bbq!

It’s coming together nicely! The last touches will be building a patio table from our old back door, picking up patio chairs & getting someone to haul away the giant ugly storage shed that was left by the previous tenants. More photos to come as we finish the patio and finally have our house-warming bbq over a year after we’ve moved in.

I am so EXCITED!

Salvaged Doors

We recently replaced the back door to our apartment and I’ve been trying to think up something to do with it. I stumbled upon this link and fell in love with all of the creative ideas. I’m stuck between turning it into a potrack, bookshelf or table.

What do you think!?
